  9. ;- A flight of about 30 flying saucers was observed at 10:35 ;
  10. ;a.m. (PST) today over the San Carlos area, Stanley Miramon  ;
  11. ;and his mother, Mrs. Marie Maranta reported.                ;
  12. ;                                                            ;
  13. ;  Miramon said the group circled over one spot northeast of ;
  14. ;San Carlos, at an altitude of 2,000 feet. They were round,  ;
  15. ;silvery in color, and "about the size of an automobile."    ;

  17. ;  He said a two engine transport plane was in the same      ;
  18. ;general area and it appeared the pilot saw the "things" and ;
  19. ;headed toward them.                                         ;

  22. ;newspaper, and by the time he returned to the street the    ;

  52. ;Army research experts can't explain the "flying saucers"    ;
  53. ;reported in several states, but they're investigating, they ;
  54. ;said.                                                       ;
  55. ;                                                            ;
  56. ;They are even considering the possibility, however remote,  ;
  57. ;that some foreign power may have something to do with the   ;
  58. ;flying discs.                                               ;
  59. ;                                                            ;
  60. ;The Army Air Forces checked all of their research           ;
  61. ;authorities and contractors, but none of them knew or could ;
  62. ;suggest anything concrete about the saucers.                ;
  63. ;                                                            ;
  64. ;At first Army officers laughed off the reports.  Now, they  ;
  65. ;are beginning to take them at least a little seriously.  At ;
  66. ;any rate, the Air research center at Wright Field is looking;
  67. ;into the reports, and all service intelligence agencies are ;
  68. ;at work on them.  Army experts suggested - as a bare        ;
  69. ;possibility - that some civilian investor has been making   ;
  70. ;some experiments of some kind.                              ;

  107. ;A flight of "flying saucers" has been reported in eastern   ;
  108. ;Canada but reaction there to the mystery missiles reported  ;
  109. ;earlier in nine states of the United States was "they're    ;
  110. ;probably leftovers from the mad hatter's tea party minus    ;
  111. ;cups, of course."                                           ;
  112. ;                                                            ;
  113. ;Dr. and Mrs. C.K. Gunn and two friends said they saw strange;
  114. ;objects "traveling at great speed high in the sky" last     ;
  115. ;Tuesday near their home at Summerside on Prince Edward      ;
  116. ;island.                                                     ;
  117. ;                                                            ;
  118. ;Roland Phillipson, one of the four, described the objects as;
  119. ;shapeless, but glistening in the sunlight.                  ;
  120. ;                                                            ;
  121. ;Father Burke-Gaffney, astronomer and dean of engineering at ;
  122. ;St. Mary's college at Halifax, said the saucers were        ;
  123. ;"outside the realm of astronomy." Another Canadian source   ;
  124. ;said "It's probably a matter for witch doctors."            ;

  126. ;Army research experts in Washington said they can't explain ;
  127. ;the saucers reported whizzing across the sky by persons in  ;
  128. ;eight states, but they said they are investigating.         ;

  131. ;Hood, reported he saw "a disk-like bluish object following a;
  132. ;zig-zag path in the northwestern sky" over New Mexico on    ;

  135. ;Other "saucers" previously were reported seen over a Navajo ;
  136. ;Indian reservation in northwestern New Mexico, and over     ;
  137. ;Gallup, near Silver city, Sante Fe, Elephant Butte and      ;

  140. ;A U.S. meteorologist, E.E. Unger of Louisville, said he saw ;
  141. ;a circular object flying through the air Tuesday night as he;
  142. ;left a neighborhood theater.  He said it was moving about   ;
  143. ;100 miles an hour, and giving off an orange light.          ;
  144. ;Mrs. Louis Goldstein, wife of a deputy sheriff at Monterrey,;
  145. ;California, reported she saw one of the "flying saucers" or ;
  146. ;discs at 7:45 a.m. (PST) today while looking out a window of;
  147. ;her home by Monterrey airport.  "I know people will say I'm ;
  148. ;crazy, but I saw a quite-rounded flying object, not         ;
  149. ;circular, with a red glow on one edge." Mrs. Goldstein said.;
  150. ;"I saw it for 10 or 15 seconds - then, suddenly it          ;
  151. ;vanished."                                                  ;

  153. ;Airlines reported no planes in flight in the area at the    ;
  154. ;time.  The only plane at the airport was grounded.          ;
  155. ;The projectiles, variously described as "too fast for an    ;
  156. ;airplane and not fast enough for a falling star," "not      ;
  157. ;moving at all," and "traveling at great speed," were        ;
  158. ;reported seen again Thursday night streaking over Denver.   ;

  160. ;It was the third report of the "saucers" this week, while   ;
  161. ;persons in Idaho, Oregon, California, New Mexico and other  ;
  162. ;states reported seeing various versions of the unexplained  ;
  163. ;projectiles last week.                                      ;

  165. ;Mrs. L.M. Wagoner and her eight-year-old son of Sherman,    ;
  166. ;Texas reported they saw a flying disc about 7 p.m. Sunday   ;
  167. ;while traveling between Dallas and Corsicana.  Mrs. Wagoner ;
  168. ;said the disc, about the size of a man's hat, was traveling ;
  169. ;northward and disappeared in a few seconds.                 ;

  171. ;A Dallas man, Tom Dean, said he and his wife and daughter   ;
  172. ;saw a disc-shaped object "going like blue blazes from       ;
  173. ;northeast to southwest at cloud level" Tuesday while        ;
  174. ;traveling between Dallas and Fort Worth.  Dean said it      ;
  175. ;resembled a flattened-out balloon and was in sight for 12   ;
  176. ;or 15 seconds.                                              ;

  178. ;A shiny disc, traveling about 150 miles per hour, was seen  ;
  179. ;over El Paso, Texas, at 3:30 p.m.  MST, Sunday, June 22,    ;

  181. ;Dickson, an optometrist.  He said it was shaped a little    ;
  182. ;like a blimp, coming to a point at each end.  The sun's rays;
  183. ;were not reflected on it, he added.                         ;

  185. ;Lt. Gov. Donald S. Whitehead of Idaho said today that he saw;
  186. ;a strange comet-like object hanging high in the western sky ;
  187. ;on June 24.  That was the day Kenneth Arnold, Boise, Idaho, ;
  188. ;first reported seeing the projectiles over southeastern     ;
  189. ;Washington.                                                 ;

  191. ;Their stories varied.  Arnold had estimated the projectiles ;
  192. ;speed at 1,200 miles an hour.  Whitehead said the objects he;
  193. ;and three other witnesses saw "didn't move, but just seemed ;
  194. ;to go below the horizon with the rotation of the earth."    ;
  195. ;At Denver Henry Martin and Walter Harrod said they caught a ;
  196. ;brief glimpse of a group of "bright objects" flying at about;
  197. ;5,000 feet Thursday night.  Martin said they looked like    ;
  198. ;coffee can cups.  They were traveling in a southwesterly    ;
  199. ;direction, he said.                                         ;

  201. ;State Highway Patrol Sgt. David Menary, of San Francisco's  ;
  202. ;Golden Gate Bridge detail, reported seeing a dozen bright   ;
  203. ;metal objects "about the size of a football" whiz over San  ;
  204. ;Francisco Bay June 24 and fall into the sea.                ;

  206. ;Dick Rankin, former Portland, Oregon flyer, said he saw the ;
  207. ;discs high over Bakersfield, California, going from 200 to  ;
  208. ;400 miles an hour June 23.  There were ten of them in a     ;

  211. ;At Bath, South Carolina, Jack Reams reported that last week ;
  212. ;he saw a disc 12 inches in diameter, giving off a small     ;
  213. ;weird light as it whizzed through the sky at a tremendous   ;
